Come volunteer on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation for a rich community and cultural experience. You will help to build new homes or rehab others and connect with the community of Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Volunteering with Okiciyapi Tipi is unique because it offers you the opportunity to hear the untold history of the great Lakota people and experience the Lakota way of life.

We have volunteer opportunities for groups from schools and churches, student interns, and even couples or solo travelers. All volunteers stay in our volunteer house located in Eagle Butte.
Okiciyapi Tipi offers multiple internships to students year round, built to accomodate your schedule. Most interns stay in Eagle Butte 1-3 months, but you build your own timeline. Current positions include:
Communicate with and lead visiting volunteer groups. Recruit additional volunteers.
Photography / Social Media:
Take and edit photos for our website and promotional materials. Run our Facebook and Twitter.
Compensation for interns includes college credit, free room and board in our volunteer house, a food stipend, and provided transportation. Call or email our office to apply.
Our affiliate hosts groups of all ages from all over the United States. We've had groups from colleges, high schools, churches, and other humanitarian organizations. Okiciyapi Tipi is a great option for a youth group trip or alternative spring break. We can house up to 20 people in our volunteer house. The general length of stay is one week, but varying stays can be negotiated. Volunteer groups are welcome year round.
Slots for spring and summer fill up quickly, so call or email or office now to organize a trip. Group fees can be discussed when you book your stay. Fees include room and board and a community style dinner provided by the community.
Okiciyapi Tipi has plenty of volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals. The volunteer work we do is similar to what you would do with a Habitat for Humanity organization, repairing and building homes.
Most of our service project ideas take place in the summer, but there is work all year. Come to Eagle Butte, on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation and be immersed in Lakota culture. There is so much to learn and such beauty in this land.
